Indira Rodríguez, una mujer de 54 años que vive en el refugio del Canes desde el año 2020 junto a sus perros, enfrenta el desafío diario de padecer glaucoma, una condición sin cura que requiere un tratamiento constante. A pesar de esto, se ha lanzado a las calles del Litoral Central en busca de un sustento que le permita adquirir al menos lo necesario para comer, comprar sus medicamentos o cubrir otras necesidades.
Hace aproximadamente un mes, decidió emprender por cuenta propia vendiendo papitas y galletas en los autobuses como una forma práctica de generar ingresos. Sin embargo, esta labor se ha convertido en un reto, ya que enfrenta la insensibilidad de algunas personas que no comprenden su situación.
“Son pocas las personas que tienen la educación necesaria para lidiar con alguien con discapacidad visual, lo cual me ha traído bastantes inconvenientes. Pero ahí voy, luchando poco a poco. Mi desafío ahora es sobrevivir, al igual que el de casi todos”, expresó.

Aunque ha encontrado gente solidaria en el camino, relata las dificultades que enfrenta al intentar abordar los autobuses para vender sus productos, ya que muchos transportistas le niegan el acceso. Esta situación se suma a sus preocupaciones diarias.
Indira tiene un historial laboral diverso; trabajó como bombera terrestre para el estado, adquirió un diplomado en criminalística, fue directora de aeróbicos y su último empleo fue como seguridad en una empresa. En la actualidad, necesita lágrimas artificiales, unas gotas oftálmicas que solía adquirir en farmacias populares pero no ha podido comprar debido a su agotamiento en dichas farmacias y al elevado costo de $8.3 en otras farmacias, suma que no posee.
