Actualmente, Reyes dicta talleres de pintura y dibujo en la Fundación Municipal para el Desarrollo de la Cultura del Municipio Vargas (FUNDES Vargas), la cual solía tener su sede en el teatro Pedro Elías Gutiérrez, sin embargo, debido a los trabajos de remodelación que se llevan a cabo en el lugar, actualmente las clases son impartidas en la plaza cercana al teatro.
«Es importante que estos muchachos no pierdan las clases, para que se mantengan alejados de los vicios tales como las drogas, además para que despejen su mente y se olviden un poco de los teléfonos», explicó el pintor, al tiempo que detalló que la edad mínima para recibir a los alumnos es de 12 años, aunque en algunas oportunidades hace excepciones con niños menores que muestran un verdadero interés y los incluye en las clases.

El costo de los utensilios para las pinturas, suele representar un reto para Reyes a la hora de impartir clases, especialmente por el precio de los lienzos, los cuales se adquieren solo en Caracas. Una anécdota que marcó su vida como artista
Francisco Reyes comenzó a pintar desde los 15 años y desde ese momento descubrió su gusto por este arte, por esta razón, se ve reflejado en cada niño y niña a los que le imparte clase, por eso, para él fue muy duro, cuando se enteró que una de sus alumnas perdería la vida.
“En una oportunidad, estaba dándole clases a una niña que estaba bastante avanzada, la muchacha era una artista, cantaba, actuaba, pintaba, de todo hacía, entonces ella comenzó a estudiar conmigo en la escuela artesanal y ella iba avanzando. Sin embargo, un día me pide que le haga una pintura de un tigre y yo se lo hice, entonces ella me,regresó el regalo y me obsequió un león que había pintado».
«Resulta que la joven tenía problemas en la sangre y ese día me dijo, creo que me van a operar y no sé si vengo más, luego me enteré que no aguanto la operación y falleció, eso es lo que más me ha pegado en el corazón”.
Su mayor alegría
Así como hay historias tristes, la vida de Reyes está marcada por muchas alegrías, explica que su mayor orgullo es ayudarlos a los niños y jóvenes, «tenerlos distraídos para que se mantengan fuera de las drogas, el cual es un tema que está fuerte y también para que estén alejados del teléfono, alejarlos de sus dispositivos por dos o tres horas por lo menos, es muy importante para mí».
Asimismo, explica que su mayor satisfacción, es cuando cada uno realiza su pintura, y se la llevan con mucho orgullo y entusiasmo para sus hogares. «De cada clase que tienen, cada uno se lleva cada una de las obras que hacen».
Los artistas necesitan más apoyo
De acuerdo con Reyes, FUNDES Vargas, al ser un ente adscrito a la Alcaldía de Vargas, reciben apoyo del Alcalde José Manuel Suárez, sin embargo, los jóvenes artistas tienen que llevar sus materiales, «porque si no, no pueden salir adelante y la verdad, es que los materiales si están sumamente costosos, por eso, debemos vender algunas de nuestras pinturas en 2 o 3 dólares, para poder recolectar y comprar recursos».
Aun así, Reyes agradece a Dios, porque pese a las adversidades, sus más de 30 estudiantes pintan en las clases, y tienen muchas ganas de aprender, además tiene fe en que de sus lecciones salga un nuevo gran pintor para la región.
