El Campeonato Suramericano y Copa Panamericana de Triatlón La Guaira 2024, en el que se dieron cita más de 150 atletas de 12 países en varias categorías, cerró el pasado sábado con Chile y Brasil como protagonistas y con Venezuela en el tercer lugar de la categoría élite.
El presidente de la Federación Venezolana de Triatlón, Arnaldo Sánchez, agradeció el apoyo del gobernador Terán por garantizar todas las condiciones para poder realizar esta justa deportiva en la que participaron atletas de México, Costa Rica, Cuba, Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Perú, Eslovaquia, Irlanda, Brasil y Venezuela.

El chileno Mateo Mendoza, de la categoría sub-23, fue el más rápido de la jornada del sábado, en la que compitieron 18 atletas. El triatleta del país austral detuvo el reloj en 1:51:57 para llevarse el oro en esa categoría.
Después de Mendoza llegaron los brasileños Kaue Willy (1:52:00) y Antonio Bravo (1:52:21); y luego de ocho segundos cruzó la meta el venezolano Yhousman Perdomo (1:52:29), quien terminó llevando el bronce suramericano a razón de que el atleta chileno es sub-23.
Los dos brasileños y el venezolano conformaron el podio de la categoría élite, mientras que el medallero de la categoría sub-23 estuvo encabezado por Mendoza, el peruano Arturo Salinas (1:52:57) y el chileno Fernando Jacome (1:54:13).
Además del criollo Yhousman Perdomo, la venezolana Rosa Martínez fue segunda (2:06:13) el día de viernes en la categoría femenina y se llevó el oro suramericano y la plata continental, pues hubo participación de triatletas de Europa.
En tanto, el jueves la también criolla Yaniuska Jiménez consiguió el segundo lugar en la categoría junior femenino.
