El secretario de Seguridad Ciudadana, Andrés Goncalves (@andresgoncalves_72), informó en sus redes que este domingo a las 6 de la tarde, efectivos de la Policía de La Guaira recibieron una llamada de auxilio de un ciudadano que reportó el extravío de cuatro ciudadanos que practicaban senderismo, provenientes de Miranda, quienes se encontraban realizando un recorrido a pie en la zona montañosa a la altura de la vertiente norte del Parque Nacional Waraira Repano, en el sector Albañera, parroquia Naiguatá.

Goncalves relató que de inmediato salieron comisiones mixtas de la Secretaría de Seguridad, policía regional, Bomberos de La Guaira, Guardaparques y de la PNB. Tras adentrarse en la zona, a las 10:30 pm, a la altura de la quebrada Río Chiquito, se logró visualizar a los cuatro ciudadanos pidiendo auxilio.
Los senderistas quedaron identificados como Elvira Irene García (51), quien además se encontraba lesionada; Pedro Rondón (54), José Sanabria (54) años y Víctor González (60).
A García se le prestaron los primeros auxilios y tras un recorrido intrincado de más de 20 horas por la zona montañosa se logró la extracción de la ciudadana, quien posteriormente fue llevada al hospital del Seguro Social de La Guaira.
