Comerciantes del mercado municipal de Punta de Mulatos, en La Guaira, claman por mayor seguridad en sus puestos, pues aunque reportan una disminución en los hurtos y robos, expresan su preocupación al no contar con resguardo en el lugar, el cual consideran muy solitario.
Ruth Estévez, habitante de Punta de Mulatos desde hace muchos años, manifestó su inquietud sobre las condiciones del mercado. «Siempre he venido aquí al mercado, pero la realidad es que las condiciones se están deteriorando cada día más», señaló e hizo hincapié en el estado deplorable de la fachada y el techo de zinc desgastado y con agujeros.

Asimismo, Estévez instó a las autoridades gubernamentales a nivel local, a que se enfoquen en mejorar el mercado.
«Cada quien ve cómo resolver sus problemas económicos y otros aspectos del país, pero realmente le pido a las autoridades competentes, ya sea la alcaldía o la gobernación, que atiendan nuestras necesidades. Hago esta solicitud en nombre de la comunidad y de aquellos que trabajan aquí para mantener sus vidas y cubrir sus necesidades», expresó.
Los comerciantes destacaron que la nueva directiva ha respondido gradualmente a sus peticiones. Se ha implementado una cuota específica para recaudar fondos destinados al mantenimiento del mercado. Además, se ha promovido la venta de negocios a nuevos propietarios para atraer a más visitantes. Sin embargo, hasta el momento, los propios comerciantes se encargan de protegerse a sí mismos. Han construido techos de madera para evitar mojarse durante las lluvias y han trabajado en embellecer sus espacios.
Con paredes agrietadas, puestos vacíos y una baja afluencia de personas que aumenta ligeramente los fines de semana, el mercado municipal de Punta de Mulatos enfrenta diversos desafíos. Los comerciantes hacen un llamado urgente para que se les brinde seguridad y se realicen mejoras estructurales en el mercado.
