El Gobierno brasileño afirmó este lunes que continúa conversando a alto nivel con las autoridades de Venezuela y Guyana a la espera de una solución pacífica en su disputa por el territorio de casi 160.000 kilómetros cuadrados al oeste del río Esequibo.
«Estamos hablando en alto nivel con los dos países y esperamos que la solución de esa situación sea pacífica», afirmó la secretaria para América Latina del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Brasil, Gisela Padovan, en declaraciones a periodistas en Río de Janeiro.

La diplomática se abstuvo de comentar el resultado de la consulta realizada el domingo en Venezuela y en la que la gran mayoría de los venezolanos respaldó la anexión de esa zona al mapa venezolano.
«Eso es un asunto interno de Venezuela. Tanto es así que la Corte Internacional de Justicia (CIJ) no se pronunció sobre el plebiscito sino sobre cualquier medida que altere la situación actual», afirmó Padovan.
El presidente de la República, Nicolás Maduro, ha insistido en que Venezuela «no reconoce» la jurisdicción de la CIJ en la disputa territorial con Guyana por el Esequibo.
El domingo, en rueda de prensa que concedió tras su participación en la COP 28 en Dubái, el presidente brasileño, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, dijo esperar «sentido común» de ambos países debido a que «si hay algo que América Latina no necesita en este momento es confusión».
