El Balneario de Catia La Mar, un espacio público que en el pasado sirvió como un lugar de recreación, diversión y fue uno de los destinos turísticos más populares de Catia La Mar, se encuentra en estado de abandono debido a la corrosión causada por el salitre, la falta de mantenimiento y el paso de los años, por lo que existe el temor de un posible colapso.
Según los prestadores de servicio, la Alcaldía tomó posesión del lugar hace aproximadamente dos años. Sin embargo, el apoyo recibido hasta el momento se ha limitado a la entrega de algunos galones de pintura, los cuales no han sido suficientes para resolver los problemas estructurales.
Aunque se logró pintar parte de la entrada, la pintura se ha desprendido rápidamente.

Domingo Álvarez, encargado del espacio, señala que en años anteriores era prácticamente imposible ingresar al sitio debido a la acumulación de escombros y basura. Aunque en los últimos años se ha logrado limpiar parcialmente la zona inferior gracias a los esfuerzos de vendedores, tolderos y emprendedores locales, aún persisten pilas de neumáticos y desechos en las esquinas y la parte superior del balneario, presuntamente arrastrados por las olas hasta la orilla.
“Hace más de 10 años esto estaba en peores condiciones. Era imposible entrar debido a la suciedad que había. Después llegaron los bañistas y así hasta ahora que lo tenemos así”, expresó Álvarez, resaltando que diariamente trabajan para mantener el lugar limpio dentro de sus posibilidades.
Los involucrados hacen un llamado a las autoridades locales para que tomen medidas necesarias para recuperar este espacio, no solo restaurando la estructura del balneario, sino también mejorando las instalaciones como la cancha y otros atractivos cercanos, con el fin de ofrecer un lugar más seguro y agradable para los visitantes.
